United Business Media Case Study

Exhibition E-business Portal
Company Profile
United Business Media is a sharply focused market information group with leading positions in high-growth, business-to-business markets. These include business-to-business media, corporate news distribution, market research and online.
Business Requirements
Miller Freeman, the division of United Business Media concerned with the organisation of trade fairs, had a requirement to create prototypes for two potential web applications; the first dealing with the selling of stands at exhibitions (Exhibitor module), the second providing a suite of functions allowing exhibition visitors and exhibitors to gain additional levels of service (Visitor module).
Our Solution
Beacon designed, planned and developed both the Exhibitor and Visitor modules. The Exhibitor module enabled the gathering of information from potential exhibitors by asking them to register their details and preferences and used this information to display personalized web pages which could also be made available to stand exhibitors. Once a user had registered, they could view the floor plan and select stands of interest. In addition, users could purchase stands via a web-based credit card transaction process. Full reporting facilities were also developed for the Exhibitor module.
The Visitor module enabled a user to pre-register for an exhibition via the web site, and book appointments with exhibition stand staff. The user could also request the location of stands based on various search criteria, and log requests for product/service material.
