Beacon helps kick-start Intranet replacement and provision of knowledgebase using SharePoint

Business Requirements
Integralis appointed a project team with a strategic goal to replace their existing Intranet with a Microsoft Office SharePoint Services (MOSS) solution and Beacon were asked to provide advice and guidance on how best to implement a phased solution working alongside members of their team.
Their first objective was to provide a production-level system to address the knowledgebase requirements that had been identified for their MSS (Managed Security Services) business with content across a broad geography and languages. Integralis had identified an immediate requirement to provide better, more structured access and content searching abilities than their current Intranet offered.
Whilst the knowledgebase was a primary objective, it was also necessary to consider the implications for the strategic goals of a collaboration portal within the organisation.
Our Solution
To facilitate early acceptance and take-up by the business, Beacon proposed an initial prototype implementation that was made available to a few key individuals from around the business. The structured feedback obtained from this approach enabled the rapid development of a production system.
Refinement of the prototype design followed without the need for protracted requirements and development phases and quickly led to the deployment of a production server. A limited rollout of this prototype to a broader range of the MSS teams across the organisation enabled the teams to load content while at the same time we worked to define and implement document workflow and security strategies in readiness for the rollout across the entire company.
This approach has provided a foundation for moving forward and enabled Integralis to prepare for the live rollout by ensuring content is instantly available to the business and providing immediate value to the organisation.
The project’s success has been a catalyst for Integralis to review how they provide access to information within the company as well as extending content access to their key partners by use of an extranet.
“Beacon have been a very important part of this project and have helped steer us through its first phase on schedule and on budget.”
