PerkinElmer Instruments is one of the four business divisions of PerkinElmer, a high technology company with headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts and operations in over 100 countries. The four divisions comprise Life Sciences, Optoelectronics, Instruments, and Fluid Sciences. PerkinElmer Instruments is a leading supplier of scientific analytical instrumentation, including infrared spectrometers used in chemical analysis, and gas chromatographs. This division creates application-specific solutions for the pharmaceutical, food and beverage, environmental, chemical, and semiconductor markets.

Business Requirements

The Analytical Instruments division in the UK needed a range of applications and components to implement their ASSURE ID system. This system was used in the QA control environment to test the quality of chemicals to determine if they were acceptable. The system needed to be modular as some of the components would be revised in later products. The ASSURE ID system also needed to be flexible to enable users to configure the system to suit their business requirements.

Our Solution

Beacon developed a full range of applications for PerkinElmer’s ASSURE ID system including a Method Explorer, a graphical user interface showing 3D images, software for various instrument settings and checks and instrument configuration software. We also implemented a complete security system defining users, groups, and access rights with password protection. Other applications included a workflow editor and an audit trail component to compare methods and produce reports.
